Nice job Pz3, that's right it is a "Livens Large Gallery Flame Projector". Where these things were deployed on the Somme the British managed to take the German lines with very light loses, but these gains could not be exploited due to the obvious results of the rest of the attack. Had they made them in the hundreds rather than just 4 machines things may have been different......

I'm sure there was an archeology program on a while back where they excavated one of these flame throwers and also built a functioning replica to demonstrate its effectiveness. It was quite interesting, I'll see if I can find any video clips for interests sake...
