I'll give you a little clue Jerry because you're the only one had guess (everybody else close your eyes now). The item in question is the metalic looking object, the 'block' is just a mould.

Is it a type of clip for holding a cyanide capsule in the mouth?

    Regards, Ned.

So very close Ned (Dave is on the right idea as well). It is a 'clip' of sorts that is moulded on to a tooth (that's what the block is). It doesn't hold a cyanide capsule though, if you know what my most viewed thread is then you should be able to guess what it holds (and believe it or not it holds two things!)

    An escape compass perhaps??

You are correct Ned. This image is from Per Ardua Libertas, the MI9 book which was printed in WW2. Amazingly the 'jaws' to the left of the item hold an escape compass, the 'bar' that runs across the front would hold a message or map (at least that's what the book says - It would have been a very small map!)

O.K., this isn't too hard, but is an interesting and not often seen aircraft. The question is, what is it?

    Regards, Ned.
