going on the celebrity theme im going to say Arnold Ridley from dads army, only because i have all the dvds and knew he was in ww1. and i just googled it.
one of my favorite british shows..........and it looks like him

Correcto! One of my favorite characters in the show, he had quite a history in the army:

Volunteered for the British Army in 1914, was rejected, tried again in 1915 and enlisted in the Somerset Light Infantry, saw active combat service in WWI and was wounded several times. His left hand was left virtually useless by injuries sustained on the Somme, his legs were riddled with shrapnel, he was bayoneted in the groin, and he suffered a blow from a German rifle butt to the head, leaving him prone to blackouts. He was then medically discharged as a Lance Corporal. In 1939, he rejoined the army as a Major and saw active service in France with the BEF, but was discharged on health grounds. He then joined the Home Guard
