This great woman has a Birthday today-she is 100 years old and still going strong! Born 100 years ago in East Ham, Essex England on 20 March 1917, her beautiful voice embodied the sentiment of the War Years like no other. Known as "The Forces' Sweetheart", her singing was known to have brought actual tears to the eyes of big brawny battle hardened veteran soldiers in the fields. She contributed more than any woman ever did for the war effort and for keeping up the morale and spirit of the Allied fighting men in the field and far from home and family. Her songs like "White Cliffs of Dover", "I'll Be Seeing You" and "We'll Meet Again" will forever hold the sound and sentiments of the era and Britain's Finest Hour! Happy Birthday,Vera! What an amazing woman!
