    Hey Ade,

I was wondering, along with others im sure, where do you get all that knowledge you spread so wonderfully around the board. You sure do know a thing or two about a thing or two. If you would, can you give us some back story?

    Thanks kindly,
    jess

Let me tell you about my experiences with Ade. If I post something and ask if it is genuine, somebody always jumps right in and says it is a fake (whether it is or not) Ade, on the other hand looks at the item and gives a worthwhile assessment of the item, and discusses why he thinks it is real, bogus, or not sure. I, for one, appreciate that! Thanks Ade!

Hi Jess, I have been interested in WW2 since the age of 5. I grew up in the 1960's with all the various films and TV series based on WW2 being shown all the time. I started making "Airfix" kits, tanks, planes, model soldiers etc, later getting into the "Tamiya" 1/35th scale models as I got a bit older. So I then started buying books on the subject so I could paint them correctly. I grew up in Nottingham and there were two shops selling militaria. This was a real revalation for me! Here I could actually touch things from WW2! So I began to collect WW2 German items. Many early buys were horrible bendy metal lead based cast fakes. I soon got to know both the dealers. Here I was lucky. Both kind of "took me under their wing". I was still only 15, but from that time on for about 8 years I got to spend every Saturday afternoon at one of the shops. Here I learned a huge amount and got to handle a lot of good and bad stuff. I started work aged 16 and my first wage packet was partly spent on a Luftwaffe Einheitsfeldmuzte for £10. I still have it Being in Nottingham was also handy as we used to have a big arms fair 4 times a year.

Aged 17 I got interested in the new hobby of WW2 battle re-enactment. We formed our own US group. Aged 18 I got my firearms licence and bought an M1 Garand rifle for £85. This encouraged me to collect US kit. I bought my 1942 Jeep in 1986. I got divorced in 1989 and 99% of my US kit was sold. However I got to discover my Jeep was ex British Airborne Forces and this started a whole new line of collecting. I had never been into British items until then.

I have never specialised in one particular branch of collecting. My interests go from headgear and uniforms, through to personal equipment, daggers and firearms. I have never really been into politcal items that much, although I do have a few items, prefering to concentrate more on the combat arms of the Heer, Luftwaffe ground forces and Waffen SS. The KM is a poor relation in my collection, just featuring in awards and daggers.

In 1998 I was at a show and there I met my wife Lez. We hit it off straight away (she was ex Army herself) and have been together ever since. She got really interested in the living history hobby and began to collect Britsh ATS womens items (she now has one of the largest collections in the UK) We both do WW2 British living hstory, me doing British A/B and Lez doing ATS. I do throw myself into things and I like to get things right. Instead of just sewing a pair of wings on my uniform, I took a course to earn my Parchute wings. Same with my Glider troops badge; Lez bought me series of glider pilot lessons for my 40th birthday. In 2001 we both joined 2nd Guards to portray the WW2 Red Army. This was something we could both do together on an equal footing. Lez is now the unit's Chairman. In 2004 we got married in Arnhem. We had a 1940's wedding in the Old Church at Oosterbeek.

Since 1998 I have been online and I have spent a huge amount of time reading and sharing my knowledge where I can. I am an avid reader. I read every single post in each forum every day. I am blessed with a good memory. I am always happy to help whenever I can. I am a great believer in "Karma" and I like to treat people how I would like to be treated myself. Through the means of this electronic box I have met a lot of great people and made friends from all over the world. I have also been shown a lot of kindness. Again all part of my philosophy of "what goes around, come around".

This hobby has truly become more than just a pastime. It has been an all consuming passion which has taken over my life. I get a massive thrill out of research and I really love this aspect of collecting.

Hope this gives you a bit of an idea about me.

    Cheers, Ade.
