Interesting war Movies

Article about: Hi all, This topic always creates a good talking point, whether you like or dislike a particular movie for whatever reason, but I thought I would start off with some of my favourites, I have

    I also like all this film! Das Boot is my favourit, my first war movie was: the enemy below and I still remember it like it was yesterday
    Forgot the next best film: STALINGRAD it also a fantastic film

    Not really ww2 related....but I still remember going to see Platoon at the theatre....blew me away (sorry - no pun intended! )

    My ultimate favorite has to be Cross of Iron! (Steiner Das Eiserne Kreuz)
    Band of Brothers
    The Longest Day
    A Bridge Too Far
    The Great Escape
    Stalag 17
    Kelly's Heros
    The Sands of Iwo Jima
    Saving Private Ryan
    Enemy At The Gates
    Battleground
    A Thin Red Line
    The Big Red One
    Das Boot
    Sink The Bismark
    I'm sure there are a few more but i can't think of them right now.

    JUst recently saw ,by coincidence, "Saints and soldiers".
    Not to add to the list of my favourite, but I did like the attention for details on the German uniforms at the begining of the film !
    Always looking for Belgian Congo stuff!

    guys,
    it seems that one of the war movies I like the most (together with the obvious Cross of Iron) is not that well know, although it has been mentioned above - it is German movie Stalingrad.

    I would very much recommend it to all of you who have not seen it. Although it cannot compare, as regards the budget etc., with for example Private Ryan and other hollywood movies, it is really quite a pesimistic, sad and powerful movie, without any place for "heroes" or other hollywood stuff.

    Target Zero.
    Fixed Bayonets.
    Prisoner of War (Ronald Reagan and Steve Forrest)
    Pork Chop Hill.
    The Devils Brigade.
    The Enemy Below.
    The Winds of War and War and Remembrance mini-series.
    The Flying Misfits.
    Escape of the Birdmen.
    The Colditz Story )An Ami Sir John Mills fan here)
    Where Eagles Dare.
    Too Late the Hero.
    The Desert Rats (An Ami Richard Burton fan here)
    The Bridges At Toko-Ri.
    The Hunters. (Always a fan of Robert Mitchum and Robert Wagner and Richard Egan)
    Kellys Heroes (Ditto with being a fan of Eastwood and Savalas.)
    The Guns of Navarone (An Eldred Gregory Peck fan here as well as a David Niven fan)
    The Dawn Patrol (An Errol Flynn, David Niven, Basil Rathbone and Donald Crisp fan here)
    Objective Burma.
    Merrills Marauders.
    Sink the Bismarck (A Kenneth More fan here)
    Not really a war movie per se but I love these two anyway: The Bedford Incident and Hell and High Water-both with a favorite of mine in them-Richard Widmark.
    Counterpoint with two more film greats and favorites of mine-Charlton Heston and Maximilian Schell.
    The Caine Mutiny (Fan of Bogart and Van Johnson here-oh and Fred MacMurray)
    Speaking of Van Johnson goodies:
    Battleground (my ultimate Van Johnson favorite-which included thew recently departed and favorites of mine including Mr Johnwon, James Whitmore Sr and Ricardo Montalban. Now that films only living biggest "Face" is James Arness.
    Back to Bataan (A BIG fan of John Wayne and Anthony Quinn here-as well as Philip Ahn.
    Hell To Eterniy with more favorites of mine including but not limiyed to: Jeffrey Hunter, Sessue Hayakawa and can't think of the thrid guys name at the moment.
    Tora Tora Tora.
    Midway.
    Wake Island.
    And many many more I could list but shant bore you Gents with it ;-))

    Using original equipment and uniforms too, a great film I would recommend. Also known as "Dogs do you want to live forever"!

    I thought I would have seen the cover from Battle of the Bulge by now, It was the first war film I ever seen........
