Default Large Heavy Canvas Pouch / Case ID

I got that large pouch / case from a friend as it looked military.
It is well made and top flap has cut-outs on both sides. Bottom corners have leather reinforcements. No markings.
If it is military, I assume it is either Canadian or US or possibly British.
Any help is appreciated - thanks !

My first guess is that it's for a Field-Telephone...

That was my guess too, but it has no handles or attachments for the strap.
Also the canvas is pretty thick and whole pouch is pretty sturdy.
It is 6" wide, 8" deep and 12" high.

It matches the dimensions of this item along with the cut-outs for the handle.

My apologies, but the original topic was posted in general discussion and my research points to the German origin.
Can you please move the thread to the German section and possibly delete the one I just started.
    Thanks !
