    Hey guys,

We need to make some noise about this.

Les Munro is selling his medals to fund the upkeep of the memorial in Greenpark in London.
I know in his heart he feels it's the right thing to do and I respect that, but why can't the upkeep be funded by the British Govt?
His medals will be lost to some private collection, gone forever.
They really need to be in a museum here in New Zealand!
This affected me so much I even wrote a letter to Mr Munro, hopefully he replies.

But there needs to be action, surely no one would object to tax $$$ being spent on war memorials?
Better than on lazy jobless leaches........
Why must donations be the only source of income?
What happens when it's not enough?
Some poor old bugger sells his medals is what!!
Is this how we honour their memory?
Their sacrifice? They gave so much and we give so little......

Considering that Bomber Command was made up of airmen from all over the Commonwealth you would think that if each government donated a relatively small amount every 5 or 10 years then it would bring in much more than what the medals will raise, even though I think they will raise more than the £50,000 he is hoping for especially if the recent sales of the Dambuster bomb sight and Barnes Wallis's marbles are anything to go by.

    That's right.
Surely there is a better way.
Les Munro is working with Peter Jackson making a new movie.
If they do sell, hopefully Jackson goes for them.
He is a avid collector and has a few WW1 and WW2 projects here in NZ.

Good to see that Lord Ashcroft has stepped in and made a deal with Les Munro so he can keep his medals, or rather donate them to a NZ museum...
