Best films, Downfall, Stalingrad, Cross of Iron is also great, not as good as the book, however Stiner is wearing a Gold Combat Infantry badge, they were not issued until later than the date this film was supposed to take place in, Das Boot is also great and as my Grandather was on oil Tankers in WW2 he had a REAL problem with Subs...
Just my thoughts.

Hi Dean
Not talking about films here mate there are tons of threads about them
We are talking about individual performances
Cheers

Speaking of the downfall a movie that many people mention when we discuss Great War movies.
Here is an interesting video I found showing the similarities between the actors and the people they portrayed in the movie.
I'm running with Ralph Fiennes interpretation of Amon Goethe also.
I've only watched Schindlers list once, It was a very disturbing film for myself and this was due to Fiennes role as Goethe. The young Jewish Engineer scene was disturbing as well as the court yard breakfast scene just to single out two.
Even though I've only watched it the once I still have these images in my minds eye.
A great effort from Fiennes, scary really and I don't get scared often.

I would propose a good candidate for a convincing German portrayal is Hans Christian Blech, in Longest Day and Bridge at Remagen, a superb actor and another would be Wolf Kahler, who has portrayed numerous German officers and NCO,s in many films, these two are not the most well known but it does'nt decry from their performances
