A cool dry place is always good and i would think airtight containers would be good

Don't be silly boys, I'm much closer, he should obviously send them to me

Airtight boxes won't hurt, left with a trusted family member or something. I would be paranoid leaving my stuff in an unattended house for a year. I would freak out daily in fact, pondering over the fate of my treasures.

Depending on how much storage room you have at your disposal, you could also buy a few of those transparent thick plastic clothes bags that you zip shut and suck out the air with a vacuum cleaner, making them airtight yet not taking up too much space.

Toss in some moth balls while you are at it.

Cedar balls are better, they won't stink up your stuff. In fact store the items in a cedar chest. Lock it. Insure it. Leave. Hope.
