    Hi Nick

    I know that feeling.

I went to the Royal Armouries at Leeds last summer and at one of the "hands on" demo's, I, and some other guys there, got our hands on an SLR, AK and a couple of other rifles, you could tell the old squaddies among us, first thing we all did was tip the rifle to the side and check safety
BTW, the last time that I personally had my hands on an SLR for real was back in 1990/91.........20 years ago.

As an aside, a couple of years ago, I was at a county/borough show and was nosing around one of the recruiting tents when I saw "my old baby", a GPMG in the SF set-up. The young soldier that had been "volunteered" to do the spiel about the weapon asked me if there was anything that I wanted to know about it after he had told me what it was............it all came flooding back to me like a nightmare.......the lads face was a picture when I started reciting it all off chapter and verse and then told a very puzzled young soldier and J/NCO that I had qualified as a GPMG-SF gunner and fire-controller back in 1982/3. They even let me strip the gun down and reset it. That was scary at how easy it all came back to me after all those years.

Cant remember what ROP and T&A stand for though.

Well done you! I would probably struggle now with a GPMG !
