Other hobbies besides collecting militaria?,

Article about: I like mushroom hunting, garden job, plastic models ( but have not time for that)

Interesting to note that all the hutch blocks throughout the various camps appear to be of a set or fixed design. Typical Nazi efficiency I guess.

Also a couple of pages of production and processing of the fur.

Talking about rabbits, has anyone else heard about the SS breeding rabbits ??? I am sure I saw a thread on another forum a while ago, but seems that incredulous, I am wondering now if I was just drunk at the time and dreamt it up ! haha

The SS did indeed breed rabbits for fur, and the images of same are on the SS threads posted by my colleague Mr. jHAM. Look there.

Yes, the Angora project in several of the Konzentrationslagers. The fur was used in winter headgear. I remember reading about one account of liberating US forces ordering the prisoners to slaughter the rabbits, in order to make stew at either KL-Buchenwald or KL-Dachau. They were unable to do so as they had grown so fond of the animals.

And just to prove it, here are a couple of photos I took in Dachau last March.....

Not likely Reynard. See the gentleman in the photograph? Moments after this image was taken, the rabbit decided he would do for starters. All that was left was the wristwatch and the metal clasp from the back of his cap. "Thumper" was last seen chasing a tractor full of terrified farmers.

Currently working on several KZ related projects, including items for the USHMM, Gro-Rosen Museum and various private concerns and studies. Available as a guide to KZ sites, contact for details.

    Ooooooopsssss

My cat keeps bringing me rabbits... On the other hand, her excellent hunting abilities aren't nowhere near enough to do something about the little blighters who see fit to bark my fruit trees. Maybe I could borrow one of you gentlemen together with gun?
