Yankee!!
Yankee!!
My father and I both served in the same region of the world, him in 1991, and me in 2012. It's pretty wild to think about.

Isn't this a great thread? Over 20,000 views.
Thanks to all contributing! Keep on showing
photographs from family and relatives!!
I'm only 15 but I know my family history quite well. Personally I'd like to join the TA (UK) as I'm an army cadet but I love history so I'd like to serve but still carry out my passion.
My Relatives:
*My Great Uncle Fred was in the RASC and fought in North Africa, Italy and Europe. I've been told when he was once driving, not sure where, the guy next to him was shot but Fred had to keep on driving, and he died next to him.
*I have a Great Uncle Clifford and he was a chauffeur for the top brass. Fred and Clifford were brothers and I believe they were in Italy somewhere and they passed each other, going different ways, one in a truck, the other in a car. Just pure luck!
*There was one more Great Uncle but not much is known sadly. His name was Derrick and that is about it.
* My Great Uncle (dads side) was a Tank Driver in Early '45, not much is known either.
* My GGGF (mums side) was in the Sherwood Foresters but only saw ('only' it was hell) combat in October/November 1918 as the British Army were giving the Germans hell, he fought near Le Cateau.
* My GGF (dads side) was in the Leicestershire Regiment, fought at Hohenzollern Redoubt, where his battalion lost 500 men, the average age was between 17-21 dear god, he was also wounded when a German bullet ricocheted off his spade when digging a trench and entered his back. He fought from 1914-1918 and, I think, and after the war ended up on the Northwest Frontier.
*Other GGF (dads side) was in the RASC in WW1.
* I believe my Uncles Dad fought in North Africa, not too sure, but his granddad was killed in 1915.
* My uncle was in the army post war and my Grandpa was in the RAF.
Sorry for the long winded reply haha
From post 3: last Monday it was 100 years ago my grandfather
Wilhelm Schenk was killed during WWI. Long ago, but not forgotten!
