    I just found this by chance, amazing! A US Army report on four panthers found during the Battle of the Bulge, that had been cleverly and accurately disguised as US Army M10 tank destroyers.

    http://www.lonesentry.com/articles/t...guise-m10.html

    From the Army report;

    "Investigation of four German Panther tanks knocked out in the Malmedy area in the December breakthrough in Belgium revealed that the tanks were carefully and cleverly disguised as U.S. M10 gun motor carriages.

    After inspecting the tanks and realizing the amount of time, work, and materials involved in order to imitate the appearance of the M10, Ordnance intelligence investigators expressed the opinion that these disguised tanks, used in the proper tactical situation and at the proper time, would have caused considerable damage."

    I have seen some pictures of these tanks before and it was part of the deception plan used during the bulge offensive.

    I'll see if I can find the reference for it on where I read this and saw the pictures. An interesting story and shows the lengths to which they were willing to go. Some of the Germans were caught in US uniforms and were executed. If I remember correctly, Otto Skorzeny was involved.

    Interesting tanks.
    Skorzeny was certainly something else.

    Ahh it all fits now, I had of course heard of Skorzeny and his use of US uniforms and jeeps etc. I didn't realise the lengths they went to in disguising these tanks. Great stuff, I must read into that in more detail.

    Thanks guys!

    Looking for following WWII German items:
    - anything dealing with Allenstein (Olsztyn) and Wehrkreis I in East Prussia,
    - entrenching tool carrier (straight and folding),
    - forestry and hunting items,
