    i can see this beginning to run on and on and totally mess this guys question up so i will start a new thread on sven hassel in the forum "history and research third reich and ww2" under "sven hassel fact or fantasy" so you can all set to with sleeves rolled up and leave ironcross1 in peace

    Penal bn's did exist. The 999th in Tunisia was partially made up of these solders. Some fought with honor, others did not....about the buckle, am doubtful, but the units were not allowed to wear the "normal" insignia.
