Albeit "inspired by true events," it's just a movie. It's not reality, we know that. I am simply saying it looks like a "good (entertaining) movie."

Regardless, the Tuskegee Airmen, or Red Tailed Angels, played a significant role during World War II: Tuskegee Airmen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I saw it on opening night with a fellow history teacher.

In general, I thought the dogfighting scenes were very exciting and there are a bunch of "heart in your mouth" tense moments which were very enjoyable. With that being said, there were tons of George Lucas computer effects moments which had the planes zooming around at 1,000,000mph and I could have sworn that at one point during the opening scene, a waist gunner's .50cal in a B17 sounded a whole hell of a lot like starfighter lasers from StarWars. The movie also gives uninformed audiences the misconception that the Luftwaffe was A LOT stronger than it actually was in the closing stages of WWII.

I felt the plot was predictable... but in all honesty, you have to expect it! It's a movie based on well known history that the real Tuskegee Airmen faced extreme racism that eventually progressed to a more respectful coexistence once they were given the opportunity to prove themselves as fighter pilots and bomber escorts.

One final thing... I do not mean for this to be at all racist. Apologies if it comes across as such... In the theater, I noticed a lot of young African-Americans that really enjoyed this film. I'm hoping this spikes an interest in World War II history appreciation and militaria collecting with them. I may be totally wrong, but it seems like their demographic is under represented in our hobby.

This is the second film on the Tuskeegee airmen. For the past few years, there has been one of their number in the Veteran's Corner at the SOS selling his book. These brave men were the begining point that brought about integration in the U S Armed Forces several years after the end of the war.

I have seen both the films and felt the made for television version The Tuskeegee Air men was more a tuned to the many herdals that faced African American air men during the second World War all and all they were both very good films and I would recommend either of them.

Here is a nice report that CNN just put up:
Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com

One of the actors said: "Regardless of what the movie critics think, the veterans say that we have done them justice, and that is all that matters."

I know it's entertainment, but what look like 109G's in 1945 with yellow noses and bomber squadron deaths head insignia???? I mean a tiny bit of research and they could have at least got the paint schemes on the German aircraft right....

    Picky I know.....

I kind of feel like the main baddie was worse... reminded me of the stereotypical evil Nazi's in Indiana Jones movies. Immense scar on his face and all!
