Read all his books as a teenager, still got a load of them on the shelf.
Always best "read with a VERY large pinch of salt!", but a bloody good read all the same.

I think I have all of his books and have read each of them several times. Bought them back in the 70's when I was a teenager... R.I.P. Sven!

Back in the 70's when I was a teenager, books written from the German point of view were hard to find. They were out there but not normally in your average book store. The first one I remember buying was "The Black March" by Peter Neumann. It was full of errors & in-accuracies but I read it cover to cover many times. It was the first book I found written by a member of the Waffen SS. Somewhere around the same time I discovered Sven Hassel and his books and "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer. Also, around the same time I bought a book called "Crack of Doom" by Willi Heinrich... All great reading for a teenage boy interested in WWII from the German side... just take most of them with a grain of salt!

Another excellent author who wrote hundreds of novels from the German point of view was Leo Kessler , real name Charles Whiting.

I loved these as much as sven hassel books

Certainly the Sven Hassel books probably started most of us in the 70's down the road of interest in the German Army of WW2 , i still have all my copies and a few Leo Kess;ers to boot but as Jesper points out probably most of it was complete fiction.
