"In all my years as a soldier, I have never seen men fight so hard." - SS Obergruppenfuhrer Wilhelm Bittrich - Arnhem
This was my favourite.....Co-written with Beatrix Potter.
Farewell Sven.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
Last Entry - For God's sake look after our people.'
In memory of Capt. Robert Falcon Scott, Edward Wilson, Henry Bowers, Lawrence Oates and Edgar Evans. South Pole Expedition, 30th March 1912.
Great author and Great soilder R.I.P
Enjoyed all his books as a teen ager, it's a damned shame he's gone and as Sven would say "Job Ta Vodjamaj" But dont quote me on the spelling...R.I.P Sven
I had many hours of entertainment reading his books and still do. A sad passing.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
He was full of it, but he did make a killing.
He had some good books. RIP
Dont confuse the man with the fiction.
Sven Hazel aka Sven Hassel aka Sven Willy Hassel Arbing or rather Børge Willy Redsted Pedersen, as he was christened in his native Denmark, was most likely never the heroic gung-ho soldier he made out to be.
Quite the contrary; Erik Haast, a Danish author whom I've met (EH himself being controversial), presented documents to the public, which showed that SH had a conviction for treason in Denmark.
SH was also convicted for wearing a uniform and medals, to which he was not entitled.
Most are loath to discuss him in his native Denmark. As a result of the above findings and as more and more info surfaced, his books are very seldom found in Denmark.
They seem to be popular else where though.
None of the above takes away an iota from the fact, that generations of teens has enjoyed the books and that they made millions.
Would love to see his books made into movies!
Well, you are in 'luck' then
A movie has been made.
