    November 8, 2007. Thieves robbed four bronze bells from the "Nationaal Indië-monument" at Roermond In the Netherlands;
    December 16, 2010 at the same monument, situated at the parc of remembrance, fifty bronze plaques were stolen. These plaques
    include the names for the fallen in the former Dutch colony of Indië (Indonesia) and New-Guinea.
    It's quite a while ago this happened, but apparently such thieves have no respect at all for those killed in action. The bells and plaques are replaced, but for how long?
    The damage in 2010 was for many ten-thousands of euro's!

    Every year, in early September, about 20,000 vets join the official celebration. A great day in respect for those we may not forget!
    Hands off, no matter what about the war-monument is!!!

    In the French paper, it is written that the robbers don't know history, so, they need money and took the statue to have 240 €.

    Unfortunately, respect can never be taught to these kind of people. Yes, we could put them to work maintaining these monuments, however the only thing they would gain from it is dodging a 3-6 month prison sentence at the most. 3 months in jail for stealing monuments, plaques etc,, is nothing for them as they only focus on the monetary gain and will no doubt be at it again.Its the criminal justice system that needs to make punishments for such acts of disrespect greater, and then finally the message might start to penetrate the dim lit minds of these beings.
