Dedovschtshina- in Russian Дедовщина born from the word Dedushka- Grand Father, "Grand Fathers" is a soldiers who's service is near to de-mobilisation, and most of them are junior NCO's. Up to nowadays this problem is still sits in the Russian army, when the elder soldiers "teach" young soldiers with this kind of methodics. This born in the end of 1950's after the Hruschtchov allow the minor aged - up to 18 y.o prisoners, to go to the duty immediately after the end of prison punishment. They have thir own cruel rules they transfer from the prison to the army.
Untill 2000's that was a real rule everywhere in the Soviet Army /Russian army, and there was no any unit possible without this " law", when the Dedushkas even kill the younger soldiers. Today this problem is still exists. Most problematic branches is a Railway troops, Naval infantry, Airborne, and Internal troops

I read somewhere some soldiers took there own lifes in the Sovjet military because of the hard threatment, i cannot recall where i read this. But there is probably some seed of truth in it.

approx 1500-2000 soldiers died each year, some of them are suicid
