Hey all, ive noticed on eBay a seller who is selling WW1 memorial plaques, the white marble grave markers and cemetery plaques. I understand they get replaced so these things will legitimately be coming onto the market. What makes me worry, is with the money these are fetching, will people start "acquiring" more for financial gain.

Im just wondering where you stand on this as i feel its a little macabre.

I've seen the same thing happen with Spanish American War grave medallions also. They are, unfortunately, quite attractive in design and hard for some people to resist picking them up. My uncle's marker disappeared in this fashion...

Not something I would buy, seems very odd to me to collect such items, to be honest I don't even like the idea of collecting the Death Pennies or KIA groups that seem so popular. I was offered a Death Penny recently to a member of the South Wales Borderers along with his Victory medal for a good price well below market rate, but it just disturbs me so I have declined, even though it is to a unit I would want items from, not my cup of tea.

Each to their own I suppose, but not for me.
    Regards,

    Jerry
