Hi Gents...the camaraderie here on the WRF can not be compared to no other website..as the Unity here is pheneomenal amongst the seasoned and new collectors..im proud to be here..and be a part of it....Ok so.....We gather here together on many forums within the WRF..to discuss our Historical attractions with each other..which is quite easy to do as we all have an understanding..with each other concerning this period in History.......Im getting to the point now .....

What opportunities do we have outside the forum..to discuss our hobby or History of the subject for that matter. We all know that some people we must tread lightly when broaching this topic.

Not that it is a "must do"..which may be uncomfortable as I said above for some. For me I usually wait for an opportunity to arise..within a conversation or group..and at that point it all comes spilling out in information. We have varied collectors here..and Im curious of the conversations you may have had concerning the Military History this forum represents.

1.What are your opportunities to speak and teach....
2.What is your favorite topic to talk about in the hobby you study...
3.Who do you choose to speak with....
4.Who other than your forum brothers and sisters who is tolerant or..fully supportive of your study and collecting.

I want to open this up for the general population here on the WRF as it is important for all who study this time period to honor the trust given them.

    Regards Larry

I don't get too many opportunities to speak or teach, but I do enjoy it when I do. I like talking about WWII in general, but especially uboats and tanks. I don't talk to many people about it, although when I get the opportunity I talk to my Dad about stuff (who is probably where I got the collecting and history gene from). Theres also some guys at work (one who is a very advanced collector as I found out) who like to talk about the stuff, but that's only in the summer (ah the life of a student). I am usually pretty careful about who I talk to about the stuff. I know atleast a handful of people who would probably label me as neonazi scum if I told them. But most of my close friends and family know and are pretty supportive.

Intersting view Larry, I am ex military where I was an instructor, I was also into reenacting where I was a member of a group that portait the Waffen SS. One lunch time I did a presentation in the main lecture leature dressed as a Germann SS Mann with all the equipment I had, weaponry so MG42, MG34, MP40, K98 which I had at the time plus all the different SS cam clothing. I gave the lecture in comparison to our modern equipment and tactics and a lot of the guys that attended were amazed at how good the equipment was then and also how the German tactics how passed down into our modern tactic that we still use to this day, the event was quite a success

Its amazing how big..... peoples eyes get when you talk and actually show the artifact itself. Most people dont get the exposure enough and only see it on TV documentaries. Bringing an item and placing it in front of them...makes them speak out...without you saying a word...after that..it is so easy to talk about it.

They were amazed at the cammo and the reverse autumn spring gear and how effective it was, also the KFS set (knife fork spoon) we still use, its the same design as the German one from WW2 lol

An excellent thread Larry, well done.

Personally, with my patent focus on the Konzentrationslagers, I address this particular area as often and in as many ways as possible. Whether it be through printed or digital media, assisting museums, advising private projects, conducting tours at the former sites or through communication, I do so wholeheartedly and with a desire to tell a story that can never be forgotten.

    Hi All,
Australian military history and military history in general is my thing and I am in a great position with-in our local RSL (Returned and Services League) to pass on the knowledge I have aquired over 35 odd years. Most of my Australian collection is in the RSL museum where I fill the role as 2IC curator at present. Becuse of this I am lucky enough to be in a position where I do educational sessions at the local schools as well as offering insight with regards to our ever growing militaria collection to our patrons and members.
This year I was given the honour of presenting the Rememberence Day Narration for the club and will be doing the ANZAC Day narration in 2014 (our biggest day of the year, should be over 3000 in attendance).
I feel I am in a blessed position with regards to teaching the younger (as well as some older) members of our community the importantance of Australias military history and military history in general.
    Lest we forget.

    All the best
    Dave

Without putting too fine a point on it, I do this for a living at somewhat beyond the introductory level, and have done so in the U.S. and Europe more or less since the middle to late 1970s. I teach and speak on the general area of the epoch of total war, Germany and national socialism on a continuing basis and since decades. Quite by accident, though, Adrian's site has become an alternate means to teach, but I much prefer my own profession with its limits and potential.
Thanks also to Larry C. for all his fine guidance here.
