Bringing this back to the top to see if anyone can help?

I would say Eastern European between the Wars?

    Cheers, Ade.

No , not Austrian. Eastern European, possibly one of the Baltic States pre-1939.

I can't make a positive ID, but would think along the same lines as Ade and BobS.
Definitely no resemblance whatsoever to any Austrian uniforms.

Thankyou for your replies, they lived in the East Prussia area, near Russia, but then when this picture was taken my grandfather the brother to the middle solder, escaped and came to the U.S.

Do you have any more family history that might help narrow it down a bit?

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

My grandfather escaped in 1912. I have another picture of another brother in very simple clothing all wool no high boots could they have been part of the resistence? I have been told maybe they were involved with the czar of Russia, it was when my grandfather had to go underground and leave his family and left his brothers behind that were later killed.
