I've never dealt with that kind of thing before. I do come across sellers that say they only ship to the US but when I ask if they ship to Ireland they say yeah and I just pay through paypal.

I have to say I've been pretty lucky buying online. And selling. Haven't had a problem.
I even got payed by mail from Denmark I think. Buyer just sent it in inside a book in a package. And it was all perfect.

    I guess it's a thing of trust.

That is definitely a ridiculous ordeal. I sell online as well (not militaria), so I understand the problems with shipping overseas using Paypal. Some unscrupulous buyers can say they didn't get it even if they did, and Paypal will automatically issue a refund, because most countries don't offer international delivery confirmation. But if he's going to disallow such transactions, then he should just disallow them outright and not make absurd requests.

Personally, I've mailed things overseas several times and never had a problem. It takes a while, but that's all.

But you did have the option of paying for/buying the item but just not the way you preferred.... right? Using the usual "business" way of paying with PP surely covers the buyer in most every way but this also pretty much leaves the seller with no rights at all if he was to be dealing with a dishonest first time buyer...
I've been there as a collector selling off items and getting paid via Paypal myself, I can't say I blame some sellers for being wary. Just saying that I understand some dealers being reserved when it comes to the combination of unknown first time buyer and Paypal, nothing else.

Thank you for the kind words, Jimbo! I'm glad that you liked the badge, and you are an 'overseas buyer' with whom I would not hesitate to transact again.

Of course, I knew you from the forum before I mailed the badge, so I knew there was nothing to worry about. In other cases, the sad fact is that there often isn't a really safe way to pay that will make both the buyer and seller feel secure. I have been ripped off in Paypal transactions where the buyer lied to get a refund and a free item, but those were only in domestic sales and it's actually quite rare.

Same thing has happened to me Rick a handful of times too but agreed it is quite rare.
