Default V1 rocket in the rockery!

Found this picture on another site. It was taken this weekend in sunny Kent and shows what looks like a V1 rocket embedded in someones front garden. I'm sure it turns a few heads when passing! Anyway, here is the question.... what is the direct link between the V1 and the MZ motorcycle?
Apparently the taker of the photo went to enquire further but there was a note on the front door to explain they had just popped out to invade Poland.

Is it that a MZ will go until it runs out of fuel then will fall to the ground and explode?
    Regards,

Probably... but not the correct answer.

That's a rare sight in a suburban garden!

The answer to the puzzle is that Walter Kaaden, who was the engineer behind the engine technology that made MZ bikes successful GP winners in the 1950s, used technology originally developed for the V1. The secret was later lost to Suzuki when rider/engineer Ernst Degner defected in 1961. The rest, as they say, is history... The story is in Mat Oxley's Stealing Speed: The Biggest Sky Scandal in Motorsport History (2010).

I would also add that the engine in the bike in the photo is derived from the pre-war DKW company. After 1945, the design was taken as reparations and appeared in various guises, most especially the British BSA Bantam, whose motor is mirror image of the German design. The same design also went into the Harley Davidson 125cc Hummer and other machines too.

Spot on Philip. Walter K helped design the pulse jet engine and later MZ motorcycles. The long exhaust is one of his design features.

    Hi Harry.

Apparently it is something to do with the War and Peace show that starts on the 17th at Folkestone race course.
