War Walks in Crete

Hi all, I am going to stay with a old Military friend in mine who now has his own business in Crete running a guest house. He is going to take me walking over the battle grounds, he lives in site of hill 107. He has very reasonable rates and is willing to take guys walking over the battle ground, ha has lots of his own finds, just food for thought if you ever fancied a cheap holiday

Funnily enough Reg it was my wife that suggested Crete, and there's me with all the maps out doing a bit of research and she says, your taking this trip a bit seriously.... ha were off to Berlin for a couple of days soon, she.'s in for a shock there as well.

Nice one Rick. The wife spotted a cheep deal a few years ago at a spa resort in some place called "El Alamein" she wondered why I was so keen to go to a spa! LOL. Ill try and root the pics out a post them of the museum and cemetry...I wonder if she likes Italian...monte casino style holidays

Great Rick, looking forward to that one! I read in the Armourer of a great little museum full of relics up in the hills of Crete somewhere! There is genuinely a spa very close to El Alamein, Movenpick opened it about 4 years ago! but there was very little mentioned about the battle, just a book in reception and a day trip out.

I think they are missing a trick with battle tourism, but the one day trip out was heavly escorted and did'nt realy visit the battlefield at all (mines I suppose) just the museum and commonwelth cem, I was a bit miffed the German and Italian cemetrys werent included on the trip, but I dont think the guide thought that people wanted to see that. They might have improved things a bit now as it was only the 3rd week it was open (hence being slightly affordable)

I bet Berlin is interesting!

El Alamein i belive is aka the forgotten battle, shame that its being over looked, i am also of to Madrid on Friday but i am unaware of anything happening around there, might be some thing interesting on the civil war though will have a look.
