    Hi

    Here is my contribution.

Got a personal edge to these as they were sent by my wife's grandfather to his future wife.

A real wartime romance as he was in a Light anti aircraft regiment and she was in the ATS manning the AA guns and they met whilst serving in Bristol on the ack ack !

he then went to Africa.............here are the cards he sent xmas 1943.

    cheers

hi guys, might be a stupid question but i dont no the answer.
what did happen on christmas day when you was fighting in the war.surely the heros had to keep on fighting, ive looked at the photos that have been posted, are these normal soldiers sitting there drinking and smiling or are they higher ranked?what a thing to do on christmas day.
Christmas has always been the best part of the year for me,when me and my brother were younger,3,4,5,ect,wake mum and dad up,early morning, then straight down stairs to ring my mamma and granddad and they would come round about 3oclock in the morning(unbelievable)
sorry to mumble on guys and take it off the thread, but imagine your son or daughter being out there in them conditions at that time of year, dear o dear

It must have been the saddest times for the guys on the front line on both sides. I suppose they had to make the most of a bad situation. They were brothers together. Raise a glass, raise a smile and raise the courage to face death

Got this one from the Australian War Memorial site.

    8th Australian Division,
Christmas card, 1944, from "Sparrow Force" to Lieutenant Colonel F. G. Galleghan, while in Changi as prisoners of war. The inside of the card shows the colour patches of the units that made up "Sparrow Force", many members of which surrendered to the Japanese on Timor on 23 February 1942.

Imagine still having the Spirit to send a Christmas Card whilst enduring Hell.

Here is one a fellow Petty Officer made up for us to sent home in 1983 from Beirut Lebanon.

We had no cards so we made up our own. We also made up a tree from some wires and transistors etc... It was my third Christmas away from home during that enlistment.

Merry Christmas to all of you

Here is a postcard sent to my relatives during WWII. They housed a US soldier while he was on leave in Australia. The metal comes from a downed Japanese fighter, or so his note said.
