What happened to Joachim Peipers things?

I'm going to Traves this week, and I'll take some pictures of the ruine of Peipers house.

Yes, that would indeed have been interesting.
After having read a book about Peiper, one wonders why he didnt leave. I guess, if anybody didnt scare easily, it would be a man like that.
Further more, he might not have been particularly fond of returning to Germany, as he was practically forced out of a good job position there.
What ever one thinks of Peiper, it was an ignominious end.
For what its worth, circumstances indicate, that he did try to defend himself after a fashion.

I found this cool model of him a few weeks ago, this is about as close as I will ever get to owning a Knights Cross with Oak leaves!

I think the mug shot picture is Photoshopped, If this is a mug shot from his capture in may 1945 why is he wearing the the collar tabs of an sturmbannführer?. By 1945 he would be wearing the tabs of an obersturmbannführer, also the RK has no oak leafs or swords.

This is the real mug shot picture, also here is a picture of him in Austria 1945 wearing the same tunic as in the mug shot and you can clearly see the obersturmbannführer tabs and RK with oak leafs and swords.

Issue #40 of 'After the Battle' magazine in 1983 carried an article on Pieper's death / murder. Looking at Google map view ( street view ) one can see that the lane west of the village looks the same today as it did back then and the woods hide the ruins from passing view. Only the power stanchions betray the existence of a dwelling.... otherwise it is just woodland by a river.

A nice place to escape the prying eyes - or so he thought - 4 years 'peace' was all he got before it came to a fiery conclusion.

Ironically his 5 year residency permit was due to be reviewed in early 1977 and it had already been determined that it would not be renewed- so 'Jochen' would have had to be on the move once more. Had he done so he may have escaped once again.......

' Peiper had just started writing a book about Malmedy and what followed' this is what made me sad the most from Wiki's information... When he was attacked in his house he was upon that project. That would be a great reading!
