Default What are the strangest (military) things collected?

I'm no longer surprised when I see something in the "New Posts" which I've never seen before....and I don't mean RARE bits of "normal" stuff either. ...I mean the stuff that makes one think "I never even thought of that being collectable".......

And to be clear, I'm not talking about the main areas of collecting (or special / rare versions thereof).....so helmets, medals, knives (yes, that includes daggers, swords, dirks...in fact anything with a blade), hats (all those Visor things, chip-bags, crushers or whatever else they're called), books, belts, porcelain, gas masks, guns, uniforms, little iddy bitty badges [metal and cloth] with funny foriegn names , ID passes, ordnance and flags.......I mean the stuff that there probably isn't even a FORMAL category heading here for...the stuff that you go to other Forums to see if they've got a "shelf" for your Post......

    Educate us..........

There is a fella on here who collects lanterns. I always thought that was an unusual area to specialise in.

I actually found a signals lamp in my fathers garage as shown in post #18:

Well composite you have eliminated 95% of what people collect.
To help out this thread I checked through my collection for most the obscure items. I guess since I have more than 3 it’s a collection of something right???

I looked through my collection and the most obscure collection of items I have is the ww1 Scottish charity pins
WW1 Scottish Charity and fundraising pins
I would of never of known there existence if I hadnt seen them by accident at the antiques fair or if Harry the mole hadn’t shown there was a niche for them on eBay. However I feel this just goes under ww1 so maybe not as strange as you want?

The prices for some pieces of Personal Kit are a shock to me, old toothbrushes and combs as long as it's issue.
Still wish I had have bought more British and Canadian Kit when it was cheap and plenty full.
    Cheers Chris
