Hi Ade, I did not realise you were into the Neolithic. Recently I was digging in the field next to Tinkinswood Long Cairn, to check whether two other possible chambered tombs were Neolithic. Both appear to have been Victorian follies, one built on top of a small section of field bank and the other was on top of a Bronze age round barrow with an inserted Roman burial. Interesting stuff and in the BA round barrow, I found a Mesolithic period microlithic blade, probably from a composite arrow head and I found the Roman coin, probably associated with the cremation burial.

I can't as yet mention the other artefacts I found at St Lythans today.

A picture of the BA barrow near Tinkinswood and two more of the excavations at ST Lythans. The last showing the full extent of the stone long cairn, something probably never seen since it was built or shortly after.

Very cool stuff, Jerry. It seems like many of us are interested in archaeology. I hope I can attend a field school in the near future.

Thanks mate. This is partly being dug by local community volunteers and a member of the national body for Archaeology in Wales (CADW) and it's being directed by two members of staff from ArcheaologyWales, me being one of them, who were employed by CADW to ensure professional standards were applied. This site is very important and the opportunity to excavate such a site is a rare chance, as this and most of the other similar sites are all classed as Scheduled ancient monuments and special permission is needed to excavate them.
