First time i have posted in a while, I had to go online to get some pics but I live in the Pilbara, Western Australia (roughly 1600km North of Perth), anyone who has "The Red Dog" movie, I live 15 minutes east of where that was filmed!!

The dog that played him in the film died recently, the real red dog died in 1979 by memory.

Hi Glenn.
It's the yellow tailed scorpion and not that venomous. If you were unlucky and got stung then it's nothing more dangerous than a bee sting.The dockyard wall where they live is long and south facing so even in winter it remains relatively warm. There are plenty of cracks for them to nest and there aren't any real predators so they thrive. Estimates are as high as many thousands..

I live on the Isle of Sheppy Kent situated in the river Medway estuary just before in meets the Thames. Known now for it's nature reserves it was at one time strategically very important with a deep water naval dockyard.

Scorpions have been residents on the island for over 150 years. Thought to have arrived from Italy on ships with imported marble.
