Hi everyone, My father and I recently found some photographs of my grandad that had been "misplaced" for years.
Like a happy little schoolboy i have been piecing them together with locations and dates ect, most are post 45 in palestine as he served with the 1st batt, of the KOSB.

A couple of them are taken in Deinze belgium at the tail end of 45.
I have been on google street view and found the cafe mentioned to the reverse of this particular picture (and on a postcard that was with it) "cafe cassino" on the corner of tolpoortstraat, i know its a long shot but i would dearly love to be able to work out which street this photo was taken on.

I wondered if anyone lived in the area (or knew anyone that does) and recognised any of the buildings,
    Like i said, long shot!

thanks for taking the time to read this!

Thankyou Stuka, yes you may be right?
i wondered if it was the one in the postcard attached below, that was tucked in with the pictures, as the name is YDE?
probably a stupid question, but was YDE a common surname?

First time I see that name! Not common, but that can be very different for the region of Deinze.

Stuka, I have just realised that your image fits exactly next to the postcard i have meaning they are adjacent buildings!, and when i checked on google street view they are still there!
Then i realised that my photo with my grandfather marching fits next to yours on the other side!!!!!

I wish my photoshopping was better but you can see what i mean!!

Thankyou soooooooo much!!! just the pointer i needed! i owe you a few beers!

SO it looks like the street is tolpoortstraat after all!
    AMAZING!

just as a side note, it also looks like he may be sitting in the doorway of the "cafe casino" that you pointed me to here too:

Don't think so! The doors are no pub doors.
Pub doors have see thru windows, these have probably wrought iron, judging by the style.
