interwar and WWII certificate of service book Welch, Kings, Cheshire, RWF regiments
Interesting certificate of service book for the regular army, for John Poland who joined the Welch Regiment in 1919 and mostly served in India during the 20's, gaining the India GS medal with Waziristan 1921-1924 clasp and would have earned a number of WWII medals depending on where he served, which sadly I don't know. After serving in the Welch for 7 years he was in the reserves until 1931 and then rejoined the army with the Kings regiment in 1940, then transferred to the Cheshire regiment in 1941, then transferred to the Royal Welch Fusiliers until the wars end in 1945. It contains reports on his conduct etc and is signed at different dates by a number of officers including captains, a major and a Lt. Colonel who was commander of the 1st battalion the Welch regiment. Notice he was only 5 foot 4 inches tall which was officially too short for army service, but this was often waived by Welsh regiments as they were considered to be as tough as many English men of greater height, for which I have some quotes which I will add when I can find them.
