    Wearing a glider badge rather than paratrooper badge. THe shoulder patch is, an Army Air Force patch with chute and fire.

    The Shoulder patch is known as the Airborne Command Patch, he wears the basic parachutist wing and the oval I would imagine is for the Airborne Command.. It looks to have the white outer circle and then possibly the smaller red inner circle and then the blue, but the wing is covering the majority of the oval. He is wearing infantry collar brass and based on this the cap patch is going to be most likely light blue for infantry branch of service..

    The uniform is the enlisted uniform prior to the Ike Jacket..

    Agree with Smitty

    Abn Command and 11th Abn shared the same oval trimming colour and design up to 1946 when Abn Cmd cease to exist then it was for 11th Abn Div.

    Note the SSI (activated March 42) appears to be two piece so along with the Parachute Cap badge and Smitty uniform comment makes it March 42-early 43, very early Airborne portrait.
