Pavlichenko who, by the end of World War II, was credited with 309 kills, making her the most successful female sniper in history.
She was among the first to volunteer after the German invasion of the USSR, and she was assigned to the Red Army's 25th Rifle Division. She made her first kills at Belyayevka. Most of her remaining kills were made near Odessa.
Of the 2,000 female snipers in the Red Army, only 500 lived to see the war's end.
Pavlichenko died in 1974.
