    Yakov (Jacob) Dmitrievich Zapara was born 1916, was a Sergeant and has been in the Red Army since 1941, being drafted at the Krasno-Zavodsk Regional Military Commissariat, Kharkov, Ukraine SSR. The Red Army Book is dated September 23rd, 1947.

    Stamp on the first page is from the 1091st Corps Artillery Regiment, 10th Army, Western Front where he was assigned July 31st, 1942. The archival document for his Combat Service Medal (#461349) reports he was an auto/tractor mechanic. He was also awarded a Bravery Medal (#1046845), both mentioned on page 6.

    According to the archive he was also awarded an Order of the Red Star on May 3rd, 1945, and an Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class, on July 20th, 1945.

    Not necessarily, it could be a Ukrainian surname (he was a Ukrainian)
