Hungarian "Cold War" Collection 1945 - 1990
Article about: It's the same cotton-filled material which the Red Army introduced in WW2 (Telogreika), which was excellent against the cold - and possibly was more fire-poof... QUOTE=Scout;937204]Nice find

Last update for this week:
The 'military-base firenman's M50 helmet' just arrived (the shell was painted silver on the outside).
Size 4 - with inkstamp markings (see last pic) - not very well readable: "H. R." (short for "Military Depot") and the last number: "...3" - probably like most of these helmets, was made in 1953 - when Stalin and the east side of Europe was getting ready for WW3. I belive, if he lived past 1953 (he was most likely killed by Nikita Khrushchev and crew), there was going to be another war in 1954 or so.
Hungary spent HUGE amounts on military in 1952-1953 - while the people had hardly had any food - under the personal command of Stalin (Hungary's puppet president Rákosi Mátyás was a close "friend" of Lenin and Stalin) - as the story goes: the Soviets were hinting to all East-bloc countries; "Get ready for WW3, and spend more on military, etc."
Mátyás Rákosi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The seller (who is a cold war veteran) was nice enough to send me additional info: the helmet is from a military base of "Tápiószecskő" - a base built in 1954, and I think was abadoned during the 1990s, not long after the regime-change ( there are many many bases like that here in Hungary, old Russian tanks, trucks, MIG airplanes rusting all over in forests, and military base ruins. Shame. )
Here is 2 photos of the mentioned "Tápiószecskői laktanya" (Tapiószecskő military base) before it was abadoned - taken in the 1990s I belive:

might be some kind of heat-resistant paint...but it's only a guess.
