Dug this out of my box. Someone said this might be Vietnam era?

Yes, it is a Vietnam era piece. They were available to soldiers at PX's.
'1209' is the model number. ( I too own one of these )
The handle is resin impregnated.

On your example above, the pommel is situated upside-down....... !

So the longer end of the pommel should be on the edge side of the blade? Is this a manufacturing error? Could I get $20 for it?

Yes, it looks like a manufacturing error........
You should be able to get at least that much for it.

I've seen mint examples going for $50, and even more.
