    Hello there,

from a little bit of research I think it's a Victorian bayonet made by Enfield in 1856 in the Yataghan style. The VR stamp is a dead giveaway, while the WD arrow (war department) and the crown all link it to the UK. 'E' I presume stands for Enfield but that's just a guess.

Click on the auction house link and scroll down to the UK. Click on the pic and see if this is the same weapon. Very nice item indeed. Let me know if you think they are the same bayonet,

    cheers,

    Ian.

    G'day Darren,what a great find.
Here are a few answers for you,are you in the UK or the USA?
I think it is a model 1856 British saber bayonet for the .557 cal. Enfield rifle, imported by both the Union & Confederacy for light infantry and rifle units.

    VR-Victoria Regina (Queen Victoria) 1837-1901
^ WD- War Department acceptance mark (discontinued in 1895, although it's been reported on examples dated 1897 as well)
E 11 - Enfield Royal Small Arms Factory (R.S.A.F.) inspection mark

    Hope this helps a bit
    Mick
