Default federal period eagle head saber- US

Sorry if this is in the wrong location, I can't seem to find a pre-WW1 US section.

Was hoping for comments on this saber. Things that look right include a seemingly natural bone grip with signs of it being bone (small black flecks). De-lamination cracks in the steel. A somewhat thick spine near the hilt.

Things that are odd- how thin the blade gets towards the end of its long continuous taper towards the tip.

I can't find any stamps or manufacturer's marks.

Would be curious what someone might think this might sell for too, considering the condition is not great.

    Thanks!

Two points, just because lots of people looked, it does not mean anyone has looked who knows anything about these and secondly, as you noticed there is no specific section for these, which partly explains why no one has responded. If there is anyone who has something relevant to post on this, they will do so when and if they want to.

Has the forum ever considered adding a pre-WWI section?

There has never been enough demand. There are forums that cover the period and specialist sword forums that would do the same. If enough items from the earlier period were posted then another section could be added. There are a few members on here who can probably help, but they have not seen this yet I would assume.

Thanks for your post, but I don't understand what it's in relation to. What do you mean?

It is a circa 1805 Ketland style eagle pommel with a broken 5 ball knuckle guard.
The flash on your camera washes out the grip you can't see it very well.
The round hole under the eagles neck is where the knuckle guard would have ended.
The broken knuckle guard seriously affects the value of the sword.
I missed this post first time around.

    G. Washington gave a sword like this to George Rogers Clark at the end of the war & made him a General, after he died, his grandson took it... was never seen again
