Help needed with bayonet identification
Article about: A friends uncle passed away a few years ago and left the bayonet below. Out of curiousity I began to try to identify it for her to figure out the value, after spending weeks on and off check

Re: Help needed with bayonet identification
Interesting... it looks like a dress version of a Springfield .03/ Garand bayonet... I have never seen one before.

Re: Help needed with bayonet identification
I believe it's a WWII Garand bayonet that was possibly taken out of service
because of the missing scabbard keeper/clip, and reworked - or it was
removed by it's post-war owner who altered the crossguard
and chromed it.........

Re: Help needed with bayonet identification
Thanks All!
Walkwolf : The scabbard shown is made for it, clicks in tight and have to push pin in to release. Hard to see in the picture but stamped into the back metal of the keeper are the letters REP on one side and B-N with a 7 underneath between them if it helps. Thanks Rick

Re: Help needed with bayonet identification
B-N is 'Beckwith Plastics Co.' or 'Beckwith Manufacturing' - I can't remember
which it is. You might find VP on the back of the scabbard body about
one third down, which is for 'Victory Plastics', who made that part.
This bayonet originally started out as a longer type, but was cut down.
Because of the mis-matching parts, U.C. may have supplied blades, or
A.F.H. the handles due to shortages, delivery schedules, etc. It may
also have been assembled or re-worked from two different
bayonets and used as a fighting/utility knife.
A lot of bayonets - and helmets - were chromed post-war.
Must have been the cool thing to do.........
