Default Machete - Our $15 Find

Me and the kid don't know a thing about military knives and machetes but when we ran across this one for 15 bucks! We figured worst case, we have something we can do yard work with. A little research later and it turns out we now have our first Machete in my sons growing collection. Looks to be a WWII US Army 18 inch machete made in Sheffield England. I found a few on the net, looks to be fairly common and it looks like the sheith is correct for the machete, which is nice. It is dated 1945. Black composite handle with an overall length of 23 inches. Someone was not real nice to the blade but again 15 bucks, we're not complaining.

If anyone has any details on this machete they would like to share (model, who used, anything of interest, etc.) your info would be greatly appreciated. Here are a couple of photos:

Msd, It would be nice if you posted close up points , ie the date, whereabouts its marked, the sheath and fixing, etc

Date on the sheath is too faded to photograph well. The machete has no date. We already know what it is, just don't know much about it.

I'll take more detailed photos, as suggested, and post tomorrow. I've seen several of these on the new but have not seen a particular model number stated, just called a Sheffied Machete.

    Here's mine, Aussie used

Glad you post this as I forgot I had it and now I've cleaned it up

Oh I paid about the same for mine!

I believe the frog you have could be from the British '44 patt webbing?

René is correct, British issue: looks like a British 44 pattern scabbard.

You did well on the price. The scabbard alone is worth a little more than that.

    Cheers, Ade.
