This is the back,.I WAS TOLD FROM THE PERSON I GOT THIS FROM THAT IS NOT A DATE/YEAR??THAT HE WAS IN WW2?
Pammy great U.S. Marine Corps K-Bar it has that been there done that look. Gary
That's a nice one. It's pretty hard to tell what those numbers mean. The military has a number for everything , the the individual units/troops/platoons throw in their special numbers. Figuring out the numbers is as confusing as a witches riddle.

Thanks gary and mike! ,
Hi Pammy !
Found your KA-BAR thread ............
WWII models had 'OLEAN NY' under the KA-BAR logo.
There was a particular method of attaching the pommel,
or butt cap to the tang - some were 'peened'
and others were 'pinned'.
Your sheath looks a lot like the ones I have that are called
"current issue" - hard to tell as the backside of it looks more
like natural, untreated leather, which is the way the WWII models came.
The modern sheaths have a coating of slick black or brown on the leather
surfaces, which is a type of water proofing, and this coating is also
on the handles of newer knives too. Modern sheaths are
generally thicker as well.
Leather does not stand up to salt water, or any
damp environment very well.
Regards, Steve.
