no5 bayonet

no5 jungle carbine bayonet
dated 1946
has the letter "p" in a circle i believe it to be austrailian
however the blade has bin ground to less than half its thikness and re blued very profecionaly done
my question is why would this be done and by whom ?
people that i have spoken to have no idea but then none of them where experts im hoping someone here can shed some light on it
i thought mabe they were making a fighting knife but there were pleanty of good knives around in 1946

P in a circle indicates manufacture at Royal Ordnance Factory, Poole.

The blade - the English equivalent of that well known craftsman from the US known as Bubba !!!

Why ? who knows - somebody messing around would be my guess - they've ruined it anyway from the collectors' point oif view.

Not a standard military pattern IMO.

Hi Ian, got a beauty of a bayo there. I have a jungle carbine. The #5 is the only rifle I have in my collection, which I do not have a bayonet for. Those things are rare as hens teeth, here in the states. If you ever want to get rid of the old sharpened thing just let me know.

i think these bayonets are only rare becouse dealers are sitting on boxes of them to keep the price up
in the british army we had a smg that had the same bayonet
i know people are going to say a bayonet was made for the smg
but i know that my regiment had 500 no5 bayonets for smgs
and back then there were 14 armoured regiments
thats an awful lot of bayonets
but this one i have has bin ground down very profecionaly
it was done for a reason imsure
but dismisive and belittling coments are not helping me with finding out any thing about it
it is not for sale but if it was i would certanly give you first refusal on it

first refusal means to a brit that you would be the first to be ofered the bayonet
to be the first to except or refuse the offer

A lot of knife makers, especially those who just do it as a hobby, often use bayonets, or the bayonet blade anyhow, to make knives with. Maybe this has been one of them? Though most of them would of done away with the grips etc and put a decent handle on if making a knife so that might disprove that theory?
I suppose it's one of them questions that will never have a definite answer unless you happen to find whoever did it?
