Remington M1917 Bayo with a P13 Scabbard

I picked up the set since the bayo is in nice condition. The bayo has the clearing hole which started in 1917. The scabbard is from a British pattern P13 bayonet. The scabbard lacks any markings that are visible. The scabbard has some type of black coating over the original green finish, but I do not believe it to be shoe polish. Not sure what is going on there. I did not think the original P13 scabbards had a green finish so it could have been put together from parts long ago by Bubba. My other P13 scabbard has a Star with a A in the middle and a squared tip. (The last two pics) Any ideas on the original finish on the first scabbard and the star A markings on the other scabbard are appreciated.

Hi John, I think one is an Australian Enfield scabbard. I always thought the 'A in a star' was a Lithgow inspection mark.

Nice bayonet John. As Chris mentioned the star A is the early Lithgow acceptance mark. If you’re lucky the leather might still be marked lithgow and a year near the seam about halfway down. I’m looking on my phone but I don’t see any issue with the finish on your new scabbard.
