US 1860 model cavalry saber by Roby with inscription on the hilt.
I got this cavalry saber many years ago. It came with the belt, but I think that buckle is from a later period, Indian wars, not Civil War.
The saber knot is original, bridle leather and over 150 years old. Saber was made by the Firm : Christopher Roby from Massachusetts. Leather saber knot still remains supple after some treatment.
Saber is inscribed on the pommel :
Henry H Vorse
Co I , V C 14 Pa Cav
1863-5

I have done research on Mr Vorse. I have about 10 pages of His records from the US Army archives.
However this last page , his muster out document is the best. Click on the document.
It says that when getting mustered out , Mr Vorse purchased from the US Army a Starr Carbine for $8 and a saber for $3.

It is worth noting that not many US enlisted sabers used in Civil War were engraved.
