WWII USN Fighting Knife Robeson

Here is a knife that belonged to my father who brought it back from the war. I just found this with his stuff after not seeing in for over 50 years. My question is what is it. The research I did said US Navy WWIII Robeson sureedge but that infor is on the blade. I did not see many exactly like this the pommel appears to be wood, the sheath as cross rifles above the lock snap. I was not able to find anything about the crossrifles on the sheath. Can anyone shed any light on age, early WWII or pre war, sheath with crossrifles is it Navy? and info would be appreciated.

Looks like an early WWII 1219C2 (AKA Mark II) red spacer US Navy Utility/fighting knife made by Robeson. These were introduced in 1942

The handle is leather, not wood.

I understand that the early Robesons did not have the Mk II stamped on the blade but there are some good knife guys here who can add more than I or correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm sure that the crossed rifles where put on the sheath by your Dad. Not original to the piece but adds to the story.

Michael above has provided some good info. Looks like it was
used a fair bit, although the rust is likely due to it's age and
how it's been stored. The rifles are too small to be branch
insignia and likely a sweetheart item that found it's way
onto the sheath - been there a long time........

Agree. It had me thinking the same thing as well. The later plastic scabbards had that but not the earlier leather. Field modified at its best!!
