    Here is my friend's grandfather original NR-40 knife:
    ÑÀÂÀØ :: Ïðîñìîòð òåìû - Íîæ ðàçâåä÷èêà (ÍÐ-40)
    The sheath and handle are wartime made, but you can check the blade.

    Hi Ian, this is not a standard pattern knife compared to others I have seen. Personally I would pass on it.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Thanks for the good advice - as ever!

    P.S. What might you expect to pay for a decent knife? Were they widely carried?

    Hi Ian, they are not easy to find. I saw one a few years ago at Beltring for £65, which on reflection, I should have bought.

    They were not general issue and were really only worn by scouts etc.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Ade is correct... That knife is not a Soviet scout knife. Real knives are pretty tough to come by. There were a fair number that came out of Polish military stocks several years ago, then they were gone in an instant.

    I used to find them at Polish fleamarkets and sold one on ebay a couple of years ago and got $225 as I recall...maybe more.

    I have one still in my collection and will post photos soon. It's a typical one in very nice condition.

    The knife illustrated above has some familiar features. Austrian or German perhaps?
