    This is not original. This is modern copy with several obvious signs of it.

    Some attractive modern copies are found for sale - excellent for some uses (film, re-enactment, folklorism, ceremonial, etc.), if not for historical collection.

    One of which is it's crude metalwork. These were quite a common sight on the internet auction sites a few years back - most originating from China.

    Unfortunately a little too late, but I don't know that I would be so quick to condemn the sword here without a much better look. From before the doors to China opened - a friend of mine had a 1942(?) dated sword with a bare pommel just like the Imperial types. Crudely made, it never had the pommel engraved because the Russians 'had other things on their minds' at the time. Likewise, I also remember seeing more crudely done wartime pommels and overall workmanship. With, by sometime in 1945, the resumption of workmanship to prewar standards back in place. FP
