Hi Guys,
Any idea on this box ?
What is a DC pistol ?
The date is 30/05/44.
On the top it says "Free from Explosive" and is dated 1946, I guess from when it was released from duty.

Not really my area, and I'm guessing wildly - but could it be 'Mk IX Depth Charge Pistol' ?
Thank you, I think that solves my mystery.

Depth Charge Pistol Box?
"Hi John according to the book Depth Charge by Chris Henry [Pen & Sword 2005 ] the mark ix*** Pistol was developed in 1942/43 for depth charges dropped by aircraft ,so i dont know if this classes it as a RAF or Navy box and is it a older box been reused regards Dave"

Well, I'm glad to see my wild guess was of some use....and I've learned something, too !
I have just picked one up too.
Inside mine is a list of equipment that was in the boxes.
Pistol
Primer
Bung
'D' shackle
On the exterior of mine is 'depth measurement' for setting the depth ignition of the charge.
Neil.
Sounds great, Have you got some pictures ?
My box is in my lockup but I will post a pic or two in the morning to show the list of contents, not a problem.
Neil.
Someone posted one with the contents , but it looks like it's been taken down . I have 3 or more of these and always wondered what they were for also .
Cheers Chris
I found this 1943 chest today to go with my Pistol Box.
It is like new so will just have a wipe over with a damp cloth. I shall have to find something to keep in it now.
